'Pierre de Ronsard' Climbing Rose
This very free-flowering climbing rose produces large, very double, quartered flowers that are white with a green tint and a soft pink center. They release a very light fragrance. A great global success, this rose received the World's Favourite Rose award in 2006. This is the most important international distinction awarded to a rose.
Climbing or rambling roses have long, flexible stems and measure between 2 and 5 meters. As they lack tendrils or suckers, it is necessary to train them on a trellis, pergola, or tensioned wires to guide them along their support. Relatively undemanding, climbing roses nonetheless require full sun exposure and cool soil. Maintenance for this type of rose is quite simple: just deadhead the faded flowers every week to encourage months of continuous blooming, and tie the longest and sturdiest new stems to their support. The older branches should be cut back to rejuvenate the canopy. As with most roses, pruning is necessary: the branches should be cut back to 3 or 4 buds.
