Ribes Rubrum belongs to the Grossulariaceae family. Both redcurrant and gooseberry bushes are part of this family. These two species can be distinguished by the way they produce fruit. The redcurrant bush, like the 'Versaillaise Blanche', produces thin clusters upon which its fruit is found. As for the gooseberry bush, its fruit production takes place directly on its thorny branches.
