Native to America, the garden blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) goes by many names. It is known as the American blueberry, highbush blueberry, or giant blueberry. In Canada, this berry is called a "bleuet".
The blueberry bush (Vaccinium) belongs to the Ericaceae family and is an upright shrub. Highly productive, the Bluecrop blueberry plant is the most widely grown in the world. Renowned for its generous harvests of large fruit, it generally produces blueberries from June to August. Its large, bluish berries have firm, fragrant flesh.
Blueberries with a very good flavor, to be enjoyed as soon as they are picked. The fruit of the Vaccinium Bluecrop variety is very tasty when cooked; it can be used in pastries and jams. They are valued for their taste and nutritional qualities. They are rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
The Bluecrop blueberry is self-fertile and vigorous. It is highly resistant to extreme cold (hardiness down to -15°C). It can be grown anywhere in France, even in mountainous regions. The blueberry bush requires a bright, sunny position to promote fruit production. It thrives particularly well in acidic soil such as heath soil. The Vaccinium corymbosum Bluecrop blueberry can be grown in pots or in the ground. It is ideal for creating a small fruit-bearing corner on a balcony or terrace.
