The ‘Jonkheer van Tets’ redcurrant is a variety originating from the Netherlands. It is a redcurrant bush, its Latin name is Ribes rubrum. Like the gooseberry, it belongs to the Grossulariaceae family.

This redcurrant bush is a particularly vigorous shrub with an upright, bushy habit. In spring (starting in April), it offers very small greenish-brown flowers. The redcurrant is a melliferous plant; its flowering attracts many bees and pollinators of all kinds. It is capable of producing fruit on one- to two-year-old branches.

The ‘Jonkheer van Tets’ variety produces fruit from the beginning of summer, around the end of June. Harvesting is done when the currants have reached maturity. This redcurrant bush produces very long clusters with translucent, juicy, and subtly tangy red flesh. Its large, tasty berries contain a small seed. The redcurrant is a fruit full of benefits, rich in vitamin C and minerals. The harvested currants can be enjoyed as soon as they are picked, in jams, jellies, or in pastries.

This shrub should be planted in a sunny location to promote fruit production. In regions with high heat, it is preferable to plant it in a semi-shaded position and apply mulch at its base. A redcurrant bush to be trained on a support.
